P1100752 Diana Dupuis on Mad Skillz
In her "Mad skillz for Drupal developers" bird-of-feather session Diana Dupuis makes a list of skills Drupal development companies look for in developers.
-- Drupal (though her company once hired a developer who knew no Drupal, but he knew PHP and had worked with big, complex projects. He picked up Drupal on the job, and is now one of their most brilliant developers).
-- HTML and CSS. According to Diana, everyone who builds web applications should know this.
-- Knowing how to build a theme in Drupal.
-- Javascript. How good should you be at it? Diana says: better than her, but not necessarily as good as Aaron Forsander, who dreams in Javascript.
-- Behaviors.
-- PHP, if you are a backend developer. A backend developer should be able to show an interviewer modules he or she has developed, or code he or she has written for a client.
-- Version control
-- Command line
-- Knowing a little about system administration
-- Knowing some about caching and performance
-- MySQL
-- Self education. Diana adds that she built CMS-based websites for 2 years before she could support herself doing that.
