Darwin Day 2009

On 02/15/2009 Center For Inquiry Austin celebrated Charles Darwin's 200th birthday. Darwin Day started with children's activites at Book People. Children had a chance to make their own fossils, examine real fossils, feed "Darwin's finches", and listen to Charles Darwin himself (in Jeff Brooks' incarnation) regale them with stories of his boyhood. At the end, of course, there was a cake.

Later that day there were 3 lectures on evolutionary topics, and in the evening, a dinner. During the dinner Charles Darwin appeared again, this time speaking to adults. Jeff really got into the character, wearing a 18th century costume, putting on a British accent, and, most importantly, answering audience's questions from Darwin's perspective and revealing lots of little-known biographical facts about the great scientist. Later, political satirist and singer-songwriter Roy Zimmerman entertained us with his scathingly witty songs.
