The team Go Pokebae with the mastermind Whitney at the center. This team gets my personal mention for the most topical pop-cultural idea of the moment, the moment being the fall of 2016. They rode the wave of the Pokemon Go craze and created (or aimed to create; they didn't give a demo, so it's not clear if their app got off the ground) an app for catching baes at the bar.
The Diversity Hackathon, or ATXDivHack, was organized by Women Who Code Austin and took place in October 2016 at the Capital Factory.
Speaking of the hackathon in general, it is notable that out of about 10 app ideas there were at least 3 that dealt with finding affordable housing in Austin -- a comment on how unaffordable Austin has become.
The most controversial app -- the one that elicited uneasy silence and snickers at the pitch time -- was a dating app that lets you pick dates based on their credit score.
