We arrived to Preila -- a small village in Curonian Spit -- on a cloudy, blustery day when the temperature barely rose above 60 F. That was July in Lithuania the way I remembered it. It wasn't a good day for swimming, but it was great for hanging out in a tiny cozy and chill bar in a building that also doubles as a lifeguard station.
In the small, triangular lounge, full of padded benches and ottomans, there was a handful of writers hanging out. I know this because I eavesdropped on them talking about their writing. (Not that one could avoid overhearing someone in the tiny room.) On a cold day, with a view of a stormy sea, you could not dream of a better place for a writers' retreat.
