IMG_4216 Margaret Atwood at the Texas Book Festival 2015
Margaret Atwood (center, halfway hidden behind a white box held by an audience member) at the Texas Book Festival in October 2015, surrounded by fans after her interview.
An interview with Margaret Atwood at the Texas Book Festival in 2015 took place in the House Chamber of Texas Legislature. The contrast was so starkly symbolic: an author of the famous totalitarian dystopia, "Handmaid's Tale", speaks in the chamber of one of the most regressive legislatures in the US.
Besides seeing Margaret Atwood, another remarkable thing about this interview was getting a chance to sit in the lawmakers' desks, though we were warned not to put anything on the desks, not even laptops, but especially not coffee cups or feet. Only the first lucky 50 or so people got to sit at the desks, however -- the rest had to go up to the gallery. I was among the lucky few because I got there early: the line to see Margaret Atwood was quite long.
Here is my blog post about Margaret Atwood interview.
