on the Singularity panel at the ArmadilloCon 2011. The panelists analyzed common Singularity-related tropes, with Bruce Sterling playing the key part, as he could be expected on this topic.
Does the notion that Singularity can come from emergence of strong AI hold any water? Does anyone still believe that Moore's law will lead to strong AI? Why would we even want sentient computers? Can we expect them to serve us?. How about the trope that Singularity will come from augmentation of human brain, or uploading human personalities into computers, or the web "waking up"?
